Pipe Repair and Pipe Replacement
Whether from age or accident, sometimes sections of pipe fail. This can be especially true during colder weather when pipes are likely to burst as a result of the low temperatures. In order to stop further damage to the house and prevent repeat fixes, Magnolia Plumbing can repair or replace a problematic section of pipe before it can cause larger issues for you.
SHOULD I JUST REPAIR, OR CONSIDER REPIPING MY HOME?
In some situations, leaks will continue unless all or a portion of a plumbing system is replaced. This can be due to a problematic pipe material. It may be due to improper sizing or installation. Our experienced plumbers will let you know if you fall in to one of these categories. Unfortunately, Re-Piping may be the permanent solve. Thankfully, we are extremely knowledgeable and experienced on these types of cases.
COMMON SCENARIOS IN THE MIDSOUTH THAT WARRANT CONSIDERING REPIPING THE HOME:
- The water pipes are the gray polybutylene. This material was installed in the 90s and has multiple class action lawsuits against the manufacturer.
- The water pipes are PEX and there is a hot water recirculation pump. This is common on homes built after 2000. The hot feed/return loop will typically be 3/4” PEX. The PEX, in this situation, seems to begin to fail 5-10 years in.
- The water pipes are copper on a home in Collierville. Nobody likes to talk about this, but it’s a thing. If your Collierville home has had multiple pinhole copper leaks, it will continue.
If water is actively spraying/leaking into your home from a burst pipe we highly recommend turning off the water to the area if you’re able in order to help minimize damage until a plumber can arrive. Toilets and faucets have valves that may turn off the water to that specific unit. You may need to turn off the water to your home. It is important to know how, where, and with what tools to turn off water to the home.
