Sewer Repair and Replacement
Sewer problems stink – pun intended. Everything that goes down any drain in your home travels through the sewer pipe, so having a healthy sewer is paramount in keeping a clean and peaceful home. Whether roots, scale buildup, improper slope, flushing inappropriate items, or damaged pipes cause the issue, the result is usually the same—sewage backs up into the home. Repetitive backups into the home can cause health hazards, mold, and whole lot of stress.
Step one after clearing any backup, clog, or blockage is inspecting the sewer with a sewer camera to make sure all debris is cleared, and to determine if there is a definable cause to the blockage that needs to be addressed to keep clogs from happening again. Magnolia Plumbing has all the tools and expertise to identify sewer problems AND the best solutions for such problems to efficiently restore peace to your home.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY SEWER LINE IS CLOGGED?
Think of your home’s plumbing system like the arteries in your body: Each part plays a crucial role, and they all work together. Just as the arteries connect to the aorta, the fixtures, drains, and pipes in your home all link to the main sewer line—the largest and most important part of your plumbing.
As you age, plaque can slowly build up in your aorta. Similarly, sediment and waste can gradually accumulate in your main sewer line until it clogs or even collapses. When that happens, your home basically has a “heart attack,” because that’s a problem in need of immediate attention.
While we aren’t medical professionals, we at Magnolia Plumbing are trained and licensed plumbing professionals. We can take care of your clogged line, but we also want you to know what can cause them to clog in the first place, and what you need to look out for to prevent it from happening, so that you save yourself money and inconvenience.
Common Sewage Backup Causes
- Severe Pipe Damage: When sewer pipes break or rupture, they can’t properly drain sewage through the system, causing immediate and frequent backups.
- A Sagging Sewer: A sagging sewer line, or “belly”, happens over time, when soil conditions, erosion or just the general shifting of the ground causes the pipe to belly, or bow.
- Root Infiltration: As roots grow, they search for water. If they latch onto a sewer pipe, they can grow into the pipe in order to reach the water that it carries. As the roots expand , they can cause frequent clogs and will eventually cause the pipe to collapse.
- Flushing Debris down the Toilet: Treating your toilet as a garbage can will cause sewer drain issues. The rule of thumb when flushing the toilet is to make sure you only flush human waste and toilet paper.
- Pouring Grease Down the Drain: Grease, fats, and oil are a common culprit when it comes to clogged sewer lines. It’s not a good idea to pour these things down a drain. They will harden when cooled, causing a clog in your sewer line.
WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
A well installed sewer will rarely clog or back up. While some mid-range solutions exist for sewer roots and other blockage-causing issues, sometimes you must replace or repair the sewer to prevent these blockages. Magnolia Plumbing’s experienced plumbers, armed with the right equipment for the job, can determine if there is a primary cause to the backups, and what all the options are for remedying the situation. If you have repetitive blockages, or know you have roots or a broken sewer, call us at 901-538-8000 to schedule a sewer camera inspection or sewer replacement quote. We’ll show you the inside of your sewer, educate you on the hows and whys, and discuss what options would be best for you.
